Worship in the Episcopal Church is rooted in the ancient rhythms of Christian prayer. It follows a form that has been shaped over centuries and refined in the Book of Common Prayer. “Common” does not mean ordinary. It means shared. These are prayers said together across time and across cultures.

Our Sunday service centers on Holy Communion. We are fed with word and sacrament. Though scripture is always read, we also value the creative literary arts and may begin the service with a poem or song lyric.

Music is integral. Hymns from every tradition are sung and songs from every musical genre are valued as conveying spiritual truth. Our blended voices carry praise in ways prose alone cannot. Instrumental music or selections shared by our world-class musicians give us moments to pause and enter deeply into contemplation. Our worship is an opportunity to engage all our senses. At Saint Cecilia’s it is not uncommon to hear toes tap and see folks sway to a strong beat. We worship God and receive grace with all of ourselves – body, heart, mind and soul.

At Saint Cecilia’s an average Sunday morning service is never “average.” Our musicians and priest spend countless hours pondering creatively how music, scripture and sermon can all work together to inform and inspire. Much creative energy, practice and preparation goes into every Sunday service. And our not-so-average special services such as Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday or special musical tribute services are downright extraordinary! We’ve been known to “raise the roof” during several inspiring and creative worship experiences.

Our service is structured, but not rigid. It creates a stable framework within which genuine spiritual encounter can occur. The language is elevated but accessible. The stories we hear and share are authentic and relatable. Our  theology is rooted in the historic creeds while remaining open to inquiry. Questions are not threats to our faith. They are often its catalysts  And humor and joy are considered sure signs of the Spirit’s presence!

You do not need to have everything figured out to participate. You do not need perfect certainty. Worship is not a test of doctrinal precision. It is an invitation into prayer, praise, celebration, contemplation, and community.

Come as you are. Listen. Ponder. Sing. Share. Reflect. Receive.

Over time, you may discover that worshipping together at Saint Cecilia’s is just the spiritual fuel you need to go back into the world and make a positive difference – in the name of our loving, liberating, and life-giving God!

Our Sunday Services

8:45 AM

10:45 AM

Both the 8:45 and 10:45 AM Sunday services follow the same pattern: we pray, we listen, and we celebrate. Each service begins with communal prayer, followed by the Liturgy of the Word with readings from Scripture, a brief sermon, and the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

All baptized Christians are welcome to receive Holy Communion.

After each service, we gather for coffee and light refreshments, offering a simple time to meet and connect.
